In The Beginning ~
“Sounds of Baseball” is a culmination of years of work on an archaic system of programming known as “coding”. It involved the pairing of ideas around what it could, should, and would be, and eventually ended up as a wonderful website that was like no other.
This was the dream of Steve Contursi, a teacher and non-apologetic baseball aficionado from Catskill, New York, and this is exactly what he did. Over time and with much patience, “Sounds” reached the level of being one of the top-rated baseball websites by the top search engines. All of the data on the website could be found somewhere else in the blogosphere, but it would have been a real challenge to find a website that contained all of this specific type of data in the same place.
Time for a Change ~
Change was occurring fast in the internet world and with that came many challenges. Most important was the constant maintaining and upgrading of the website, and, along with the coding, it was becoming very time-consuming. A call was put out to the baseball community for someone to help with a transition to a more user friendly website.
Along came Ronni Redmond of Santa Cruz, CA, a baseball blogger with a bit of baseball knowledge, and a smidgeon of computer experience. But she wrote a decent blog, had an insatiable appetite for anything baseball and lots of chutzpah and opinions.
This is the new “Sounds of Baseball”. Its foundation is the original Sounds with a few little ditties thrown in and published in a Word Press format that’s much easier to maintain. Goodbye to coding.
Our Mission Statement ~
Our Mission is to provide and maintain an online library presence of baseball history and events in the form of, but not limited to, photos, images, audio and video recordings of historical value.
We Need a Little Help ~
We established our enterprise as a Non-Profit Corporation. As such, we’re governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We file annual tax returns and all of our financial information is open and available to the public. We do not accept public funding or government financing.
The site is evolving constantly but takes time as all of the input and editing is done by volunteers. We’ve suspended downloading at this time and are looking at other avenues of fundraising. Annual fees will soon be due and downloads haven’t been producing the revenues we hoped they would.
If you enjoy the website, please share it with your friends and family. And please contact us and let us know how we’re doing. We appreciate your comments and suggestions on how we can improve. We hope you enjoy the Website as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you.
Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) Corporation ~
“Sounds of Baseball” is a Non Profit 501(c) (3) Corporation. If you like the website please consider making a donation. Donations, unless designated for a specific purpose, will be used to maintain, enhance and improve the website. Again, we do not accept public funds or government support.
And remember, donations can be made in the form of cash or goods, so if you happen to find some baseball memorabilia in grandma’s attic, please think of us. We’d be happy to consider it for this website to share with others, with an honorable mention in your name.
Your donations may be tax deductible. Please consult with your tax adviser to determine if a deduction might benefit you.
IF YOU LIKE OUR SITE PLEASE HELP US KEEP IT GOING AND GROWING.
